Play Types

The NC Lottery Pick 3 has seven different play types to choose. With so many choices, its easy to get confused and avoid the play types you don’t understand. We created a quick summary of each play to and how each wins.

The numbers can be drawn in ANY order as long as the three drawn numbers match your numbers. There are 2 types of wins with the Any Play Type.

3 Way:

When two of your three numbers are the same, like 1 – 1 – 2, then you have three possible winning combinations, hence a 3 Way.

6 Way:

When all three of your numbers are different, like 1 – 2 – 3, you have six possible winning combinations, hence a 6 Way.

You Played 2 Different Numbers: 1 – 1 – 2

Win with any 3 possible combinations, called a 3 Way. Winning combinations would be:

1 – 1 – 2

1 – 2 – 1

2 – 1 – 1

You Played 3 Different Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3

Win with any of 6 possible combinations, called a 6 Way. Winning combinations would be:

50/50

(exact/any order)

The 50/50 allows players to win if the three numbers are drawn Exactly as played OR if the balls appear in any order but still match the balls played. A combination of the previous Exact and Any Play Types.

There are 2 types of wins with the 50/50 Play Type, the 3 Way and 6 Way, as described above.

The possible winning combinations are the same as the above Exact and Any examples.

**Additional Cost**

A combo play takes a number and all it’s possible combinations ( 3 or 6 combinations) and plays all those variations as Exact plays.

The price of the ticket increase by 3x or 6x as you are playing all possible combinations of a number as an Exact Match.

You Played 2 Different Numbers: 1 – 1 – 2

A Combo Play will take all 3 possible number combinations and play each one as a separate Exact Play. Winning combinations would be:

Pick any two numbers and specify their location. For a Front Pair play, select numbers in the first two columns only; for a Back Pair play, select numbers in the last two columns only.

Selected pair of numbers must match the winning pair in the exact order drawn.

Front Pair Played: 1 – 2 – X

You win if the first two numbers are drawn in the exact order you played. The third drawn number can be any number. Winning combinations would be:

If the sum of your numbers equals the sum of the numbers drawn, you win. Your numbers do not have to match the drawn numbers, just the total.

Terminology

Sometimes game information can be confusing. We created a brief overview of some of the common terms used in Carolina Pick 3 that you should be familiar.

 

A random set of playing numbers chosen by a lottery terminal. Players may choose to have the lottery terminal pick their playing numbers instead of choosing numbers on their own.

 

Multi-draw is playing the same set of numbers on consecutive drawings. While filling out a play slip, a player may choose to play the same set of numbers for up to 7 consecutive day or evening drawings for the Carolina Pick 3.

 

Your numbers have to match the numbers drawn in the exact order they are listed on your ticket. Prize amounts for this play type are $250 or $500.

The numbers on your ticket must match the numbers drawn, but the order of the numbers doesn’t matter. Prize amounts for this play type range from $40 to $160.

 

This play combines 50% Exact Order and 50% Any Order plays, so that you win either way your numbers are drawn. If you match exactly, you win both the Exact Order and Any Order prizes. (This play can only be purchase for $1.00.) Prize amounts for this play type range from $40 to $330.

 

A Combo play is an Exact Order play for every possible combination of the numbers you selected on one ticket. Prize amounts for this play type are $250 or $500.

 

For Front Pair the selected pair of numbers (first two numbers) must match the first two numbers drawn in exact order. For Back Pair the selected pair of numbers (last two numbers) must match the last two numbers drawn in exact order. Prize amounts for Front Pair & Back Pair are $25 for a $.50 play or $50 for a $1.00 play.

 

You win a prize if one or more of the numbers you selected are 1-OFF the numbers drawn in exact order. Select 1-OFF for Pick 3 for 26 chances to win. All possible winning number combinations will be printed on the ticket. 1-OFF plays with selected numbers matching all numbers drawn do not win a prize. Prize amounts for 1-OFF range from $5 to $40 depending on the play amount.

 

Add SUM IT UP to your Pick 3 ticket and if the sum of the numbers you selected matches the sum of the numbers drawn you win. SUM IT UP is not available for Front Pair/Back Pair. The cost for SUM IT UP equals the base cost of the ticket. Prize amounts for SUM IT UP range from $3 -$250 for a $0.50 play and $6 – $500 for a $1 play.

 

3-Way means that you have chosen a number that has 2 digits that are alike. (Example: 377) Because of that, there are only 3 ways to combine the numbers selected to match the numbers drawn, (i.e. 377 or 737 or 773).

 

6-Way means that you have chosen a number that has 3 different digits. (Example: 368) Because of that, there are 6 ways to combine the numbers selected to match the numbers drawn, (i.e. 368 or 386 or 638 or 683 or 836 or 863).

 

FAQs

7 days a week at approximately 11:22pm EST. However, ticket sales stop at 10:59pm EST.

 

Yes. At your request, a NC Pick 3 ticket can be canceled at the lottery terminal where it was purchases within 15 minutes of the purchase time or within the remaining time before the draw break, whichever occurs first.

 

The claim period is 180 days after the draw date.

 

The individual in possession of an unsigned lottery ticket will be able to cash the ticket. Players should immediately sign the back of each ticket upon purchase.

 

Of course. The government always wants its cut. All prizes won are subject to Federal and State withholdings.

 

Odds are the probability, or likelihood an event will occur. In the case of lottery prizes, you may see odds like 1 in 210,000. This means that the likelihood that prize will hit is once every 210,000 tries BUT does not mean it will occur exactly every 210,000 times.
