Carolina Pick 4, or as commonly referred, Pick 4 NC, was first introduced to the state on April 17, 2009 and represented about 5.6% of NC Lottery ticket sales for FY2018. In the most recent fiscal year, the NC Lottery Pick 4 experienced growth of 7% over the prior year and continues to be a solid NC Lottery games favorite.
In fiscal year 2018, North Carolina residents spent $13.97 per capita (average across all residents) on Carolina Pick 4. However, looking at just 18+residents (eligible players), North Carolina residents spent an average of $18.10 per year on North Carolina Pick 4.

Step 3: Choose to play 1 time or up to 7 consecutive day or evening draws (known as multidraw)

NC Pick 4 Play Types Explained
The NC Lottery Pick 4 has seven different play types to choose. With so many choices, its easy to get confused and avoid the play types you don't understand. We created a quick summary of each play to and how each wins.
Play Type  Match  Example  

Exact (exact order)  Must match your three numbers in the exact order drawn.  You Play: 1  2 3  4 You ONLY win if the balls drawn are drawn exactly as 1 2 3 4  
Any (any order)  The numbers can be drawn in ANY order as long as the four drawn numbers match your numbers. There are 4 types of wins with the Any Play Type. 4 Way: When three of your four numbers are the same, like 1  1  1  2, then you have four possible winning combinations, hence a 4 Way. 6 Way: When you have chosen a number that has 2 pairs of digits that are alike, like 1  1  2  2, you have six possible winning combinations, hence a 6 Way. 12 Way: When you have chosen a pair of numbers that are alike and two numbers that are not, , like 1  1  2  3. You have twelve possible winning combinations, hence a 12 Way. 24 Way: When all four of your numbers are different, like 1  2  3  4, you have 24 possible winning combinations, hence a 24 Way.  You Played 2 Different Numbers: 1  1  1  2 Win with any 4 possible combinations, called a 4 Way. Winning combinations would be:
You Played 2 Different Paired Numbers: 1  1  2  2 Win with any of 6 possible combinations, called a 6 Way. Winning combinations would be:
You Played 3 Different Numbers: 1  1  2  3 Win with any of 12 possible combinations, called a 12 Way. Winning combinations would be:
You Played 4 Different Numbers: 1  2  3  4 Win with any of 24 possible combinations, called a 24 Way. Winning combinations would be:
 
50/50 (exact/any order)  The 50/50 allows players to win if the three numbers are drawn Exactly as played OR if the balls appear in any order but still match the balls played. A combination of the previous Exact and Any Play Types. There are 4 types of wins with the 50/50 Play Type, the 4 Way, 6 Way, 12 Way and 24 Way, as described above.  The possible winning combinations are the same as the above Exact and Any examples.  
Combo (all combos of exact order) **Additional Cost**  A combo play takes a number and all it's possible combinations ( 4, 6, 12, or 24 combinations) and plays all those variations as Exact plays. The price of the ticket increase by 4x, 6x, 12x or 24x as you are playing all possible combinations of a number as an Exact Match.  See all possible combination under Any play type. Each combination is played as an exact play.  
Pairs (exact order)  Pick any two numbers and specify their location. For a Front Pair play, select numbers in the first two columns only; for a Back Pair play, select numbers in the last two columns only. Selected pair of numbers must match the winning pair in the exact order drawn.  Front Pair Played: 1  2  X  X You win if the first two numbers are drawn in the exact order you played. The third and fourth numbers drawn can be any number. Back Pair Played: X  X  1  2 You win if the last two numbers are drawn in the exact order you played. The first and second numbers drawn can be any number.  
Sum It Up (4 ball total) **Additional Cost**  If the sum of your numbers equals the sum of the numbers drawn, you win. Your numbers do not have to match the drawn numbers, just the total. See below for a more detailed explanation.  You Played: 1  2  3  4 The sum of your numbers is 10 (1 + 2 + 3 + 4). If the sum of the winning numbers is equal to 10, you win.  
1 OFF (exact order)  You win a prize if one or more of the numbers you selected are one up or one down of the numbers drawn.  You Played: 1  2  3  4 1 Digit 1 OFF winning combinations:
