Terminology

Sometimes game information can be confusing. We created a brief overview of some of the common terms used in Carolina Pick 4 that you should be familiar.

A random set of playing numbers chosen by a lottery terminal. Players may choose to have the lottery terminal pick their playing numbers instead of choosing numbers on their own.

Multi-draw is playing the same set of numbers on consecutive drawings. While filling out a play slip, a player may choose to play the same set of numbers for up to 7 consecutive day or evening drawings for the Carolina Pick 4.

Your numbers have to match the numbers drawn in the exact order they are listed on your ticket. Prize amounts for this play type are $2,500 or $5,000.

The numbers on your ticket must match the numbers drawn, but the order of the numbers doesn’t matter. Prize amounts for this play type range from $100 to $1,200.

This play combines $0.50 Exact Order and $0.50 Any Order plays, so that you win either way your numbers are drawn. If you match exactly, you win both the Exact Order and Any Order prizes. (This play can only be purchased for $1.00.) Prize amounts for this play type range from $100 to $3,100.

A COMBO play is an Exact Order play for every possible combination of the numbers you selected on one ticket. Prize amounts for this play type are $2,500 or $5,000.

For Front Pair the selected pair of numbers (first two numbers) must match the first two numbers drawn in exact order. For Back Pair the selected pair of numbers (last two numbers) must match the last two numbers drawn in exact order. Prize amounts for Front Pair & Back Pair are $25 for a $.50 play or $50 for a $1.00 play.

You win a prize if one or more of the numbers you selected are 1-OFF the numbers drawn in exact order. Select 1-OFF for Pick 4 for 80 chances to win. All possible winning number combinations will be printed on the ticket. 1-OFF plays with selected numbers matching all numbers drawn do not win a prize. Prize amounts for 1-OFF range from $13 to $300 depending on the play amount

Add SUM IT UP to your Pick 4 ticket and if the sum of the numbers you selected match the sum of the numbers drawn you win. SUM IT UP is not available for Front Pair/Back Pair. The cost for SUM IT UP equals the base cost of the ticket. Prize amounts for SUM IT UP range from $4 -$2,500 for a $0.50 play and $8 – $5,000 for a $1 play.

4-Way means that you have chosen a number that has 3 digits that are alike and 1 other digit. (Example: 2777) Because of that, there are 4 ways to combine the number selected to match the numbers drawn (i.e. 2777 or 7277 or 7727 or 7772).

6-Way means that you have chosen a number that has 2 pairs of digits that are alike. (Example: 4488) Because of that, there are 6 ways to combine the numbers selected to match the numbers drawn (i.e. 4488 or 4848 or 4884 or 8448 or 8484 or 8844).

12-Way means that you have chosen a number that has 2 digits that are alike and 2 other digits. (Example: 3305) Because of that, there are 12 ways to combine the numbers selected to match the numbers drawn (i.e. 0335 or 0353 or 0533 or 3035 or 3053 or 3305 or 3350 or 3503 or 3530 or 5033 or 5303 or 5330).

24-Way means that you have chosen a number that has 4 different digits. (Example: 0123) Because of that, there are 24 ways to combine the numbers selected to match the numbers drawn (i.e. 0123 or 0132 or 0213 or 0231 or 0312 or 0321 or 1023 or 1032 or 1203 or 1230 or 1302 or 1320 or 2013 or 2031 or 2103 or 2130 or 2301 or 2310 or 3012 or 3021 or 3102 or 3120 or 3201 or 3210).

Odds are the probability, or likelihood an event will occur. In the case of lottery prizes, you may see odds like 1 in 210,000. This means that the likelihood that prize will hit is once every 210,000 tries BUT does not mean it will occur exactly every 210,000 times.
