TX Lottery Scratch Offs FAQs
Every day, LottoEdge assesses thousands of scratch-off games from more than 35 state lotteries and is frequently sought after by media for expert insights. Using our expertise and data from the Texas Lottery website, we’ve put together an FAQ list regarding scratch games.
Strategy
What scratch off prizes are remaining?
The top remaining scratch off prizes, ranked from largest to smallest top prize, are as follows. For a complete list of remaining prizes for all games, visit our Texas Lottery Remaining Prizes page.
What does Overall Odds mean?
The Overall Odds show the chance of winning any prize on a scratch-off ticket, even if its a free ticket or a prize equal to the ticket’s face value. Odds may appear something like “1 in 3.5”, but that does not mean there is a guaranteed winner in every four tickets, as these odds average the likelihood of winning over all tickets printed for that game.
Normally you can find the Overall Odds on the back of your scratch off ticket; however, lottery players also often check the REAL Odds™️, a LottoEdge exclusive, for the true odds of winning. With REAL Odds™️, we strip out all breakeven prizes to show the odds of winning prizes greater than the cost of the ticket.
How can I win scratch offs?
It’s crucial to remember the lottery is a game of chance, and winning requires both planning and luck. Having a strategy can improve your chances of winning a meaningful prize. We recommend players:
- Plan Ahead – Decide which prize you are aiming for today. Avoid just wanting to “win anything.” Always remember the smaller your prize goal, the better the odds. Winning $500 is much easier than trying to bring home a $10,000 or even $1MM Top Prize.
- Establish a Budget – Set a spending limit which will determine the price point to play and how many tickets you buy.
- Pick the Best Odds – Target games with the best odds of winning based on your goals and budget today.
What is the "BEST" scratch off to buy?
Players that ask us this question are usually referring to the game with the best Overall Odds. Again, Overall Odds are the odds of winning any prize, including breakeven prizes. They ask because they don’t realize prize level odds are available and that games can vary greatly from one to another. The “BEST” game to play is different from player to player.
Each player has a different prize they would like to win as well as how much they can spend. Savvy players will target smaller prizes as the odds will be much better than swinging for a top prize.
Which scratch game wins the most?
Players will often differ on what they mean when they ask, “Which scratch off wins the most?” Let’s breakdown a couple common meanings:
Overall Odds – The game with the best overall odds will have the most “wins”; however, these games often are packed with small, breakeven prizes or even free tickets. A player may see more “wins”, but in reality, they often will just be winning their money back or another ticket.
Prize Payout – A game’s Prize Payout is the percentage of ticket sales paid out to players in the form of prizes. Typically higher priced games will payout more prize money than the less expensive games.
PRO TIP – Players should concentrate on the prizes they are aiming to win and use available data to play with a strategic edge. By identifying when the odds of winning have significantly improved, players can better time their purchases to increase their chances of winning.

How long do I have to claim a scratch off prize?

Tickets
What new scratch games are there from the Texas Lottery?
Scratch games released in the last 30 days are highlighted with a “NEW GAME!” tag on all our scratch off rankings.
PRO TIP – Many scratch off players believe new scratch off games are “red hot” and have more winners than older, existing games. The truth is, new game releases often sell more tickets because they are new & flashy. This increased level of ticket sales will naturally result in more winning tickets.
Which lottery game has the best odds?
We always respond to this question with another: “Best odds to win what?”
The best odds to win depend heavily on your specific goals. Are you looking to win just enough to treat yourself to a fancy dinner, or are you dreaming of a jackpot big enough to buy an island? Each lottery game, whether it’s a scratch-off or a draw game, has different prize odds, making some games more favorable for achieving specific types of wins.
At LottoEdge, we recognize that every player has unique goals and playing styles. That’s why we provide detailed rankings for over 20 scratch-off games, complete with price filters to help you find the games with the best odds. Additionally, we offer draw game odds comparisons for all your favorite Texas Lottery games.
How many tickets are on a roll of scratch offs?
The number of tickets on a roll of scratch-offs can vary based on the specific game and the cost per ticket. Typically, a roll may contain from 20 to 300 tickets, with the total cost of the roll ranging between $300 and $600.
To obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is recommended to check with your local lottery retailer.
