Newsletter: “If the odds are 1 in 4.5… just buy 5 tickets”

You see a scratch game with something like “1 in 4.5 odds of winning”
and think to yourself…

“I only need to buy 5 tickets to guarantee a win.”

We’ve all had that thought.

That’s what the lottery is telling us… right?

But… that’s not how lottery odds work.

When you see odds like 1 in 4.5,
it’s easy to think they’re exact.

Like every 4–5 tickets should win.

That would be nice.

But prize odds aren’t based on a small batch of tickets.

They’re calculated across the entire game.
Millions of tickets.
All prize levels combined.

So what actually happens?

Wins don’t show up on a precise schedule.

They can hit early.
They can hit late.
They can hit right on time.
And sometimes… they bunch up in ways that make no sense at all.

Meme It Makes No Sense

That’s the part most players miss.

Odds aren’t a precise countdown.

They’re a big picture snapshot of how the game is built.

Next week, we’ll tackle another player misconception:

“Games with no top prizes left aren’t worth playing.”

That one might surprise you.

Play smart.
Have fun.
And never risk more than you can afford.
