What are HitAlerts?

By: LottoEdge

Let’s pull back the curtain on our Biggest Edge.

Where should we start? First, let’s clarify what a MEGA Prize is because HitAlerts are all about helping you find MEGA Prizes.

A MEGA Prize is a scratch off prize with 100 or fewer winners in the entire game. This usually means the Top 2 or 3 grand prizes. These rare MEGA Prizes are dream fuel – buy yourself some fancy stuff kind of money.

HitAlerts only appear for MEGA Prizes. And we have 2 types of HitAlerts – OverDue HitAlerts and OverLooked HitAlerts.

Let’s start with OverDue HitAlerts.

OverDue HitAlerts

Let’s say you have a roll of 100 scratch-off tickets with 10 winning tickets on the roll.

Your odds are 1:10.

After 9 losers get pulled, scratching that 10th ticket gets pretty exciting…

If the lottery were mathematically perfect, each winning ticket would show up exactly in the 10th position. Nine duds, a winner, rinse and repeat. Ha! Keep dreaming…

In reality, the 10 winning tickets are in random positions on the roll, of course. The first ticket could be a winner – and the second one too.

Forgive me when I state the obvious, because it’ll pay off in a minute. Lottery prizes can hit early, on time, or late.

  • Early is impossible to predict – that’s luck striking at random.
  • Exactly On Time (every 10th on the roll) just isn’t how the lottery works.
  • LATE is when you have an EDGE…

When the 10th ticket doesn’t win, or the 11th, or the 20th – there are now fewer losers and more winners left on the roll. With each additional loser sold, your odds of scratching a winner go up and up.

We call these OverDue Prizes and they can happen almost anytime during the life of a game.

When we spot a MEGA Prize that is OverDue, we’ll add a shiny, red banner to a scratch game so you don’t miss it.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t other MEGA Prizes in a game that are OverDue. We’ll show you the highest prize that is OverDue but check out a game’s detail page to see if there might be others.

Next, let’s look at OverLooked HitAlerts

OverLooked HitAlerts

When a scratch game gets old, it’s easy to assume it’s played out and stop buying it. However, sometimes there’s a MEGA Prize hiding in there, still unclaimed, with a relatively small number of remaining tickets…

Everyone else is guessing, or going with their gut.

When you see an OverLooked HitAlert – that’s a game with an unclaimed MEGA Prize and few tickets remaining.

Just like OverDue prizes, with each losing ticket sold, the odds of you finding the winning ticket go up and up.

As we near the end of a game, and remaining tickets are dwindling day by day, if there’s a MEGA prize still in there, we issue an OverLooked HitAlert.

But wait – I need to tell you the most important thing:

Playing HitAlerts takes patience.

Yes, we calculate and publish updated odds every single day. But, that doesn’t mean there’s a fresh new HitAlert every day – or even every week.

If you don’t see any HitAlerts today, check again tomorrow.

If the same HitAlert has been going for 5 days in a row – or 2 weeks – the data isn’t broken. The MEGA prize for that HitAlert still hasn’t been claimed and the odds are getting better and better…

Why Doesn’t My State Show HitAlerts?

Great question. We aren’t holding back HitAlerts for some states. Our ability to track estimated ticket sales depends on the data Lotteries share.

Sadly some Lotteries just don’t share enough information for us to do our analysis.

We’ll keep checking and if they do start sharing more data, we’ll be all over it.

LASTLY…

Play smart.

Remember you are playing the Lottery. HitAlerts are a great way to spot MEGA prizes with improved odds but there are no sure wins. Know your odds and remember to always play responsibly!
